Thanks to the Youth Challenge Academy!
We'd like to give a big thank you to the wonderful people at Camp Blanding
and the Florida Youth Challenge Academy. It is an awesome program! If
you're interested in knowing a little more about what they do, here is
a special note from SGM (Retired) James Ransom, the Program Coordinator
for the Academy:
"We here at the Florida Youth Challenge Academy were ecstatic to
have been given an opportunity to show case our program for youths. Especially
since Ultimate Choice TV believes in family values and that the youth
of today are our leaders of tomorrow. We enjoyed the competition of some
of our new Cadets from Class '05 going "Head to Head" with the
Ultimate Choice team in a very friendly competition of an Obstacle Course
and Boat Relay Races.
The mission of our program is to empower at-risk youth to become successful,
productive citizens by Leading, Training, and Mentoring them through a
highly disciplined and motivational environment, free from outside distractions.
The program consists of three phases- a Pre-Challenge Phase of two weeks,
a Challenge Phase of five months, and a Post Residential Phase of one
year. During the Pre-Challenge Phase, applicants are stressed mentally
and physically and then evaluated to determine if they are prepared for
acceptance into the Challenge Phase. Those earning the right to participate
in the Challenge Phase become "cadets" and will undergo a demanding,
highly regimented, motivational period where the core components of academic
excellence (GED completion), community service, job skills, leadership/followership,
life-coping skills, physical fitness, health education, and citizenship
are embraced daily. The Post Residential Phase is a mentorship phase beginning
immediately after graduation in each cadet's home community.
